Together for Earth: UPMRC, NGOs Lead Green Revolution

Lucknow: Awareness drives at Hazratganj and Bhoothnath Metro Stations highlight UPMRC’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable urban transport

On the occasion of World Environment Day on 5th June 2025, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) organized two special events at Hazratganj Metro Station and Bhoothnath Metro Station in collaboration with local NGOs. These events were planned to promote awareness about the environment and to encourage sustainable habits among people.

At Hazratganj Metro Station, UPMRC in collaboration with Paryavarnam Society distributed water pots for birds to commuters. The activity was held at Entry Gate No. 2. Commuters were requested to keep the water pots outside their homes and fill them regularly so that birds can drink water during the summer season. The initiative aimed to nurture eco-friendly habits and promote kindness towards commonly seen birds in the urban setting. Metro commuters participated with enthusiasm, with many pledging to make this a regular practice.

Another event was organized with Diya Baati Foundation, where 15 children from the foundation were given free metro rides from Bhoothnath Metro Station to CCS Airport Metro Station and back. A drawing competition was organized inside the moving metro. Children expressed their ideas on the importance of public transport in protecting the environment and were made aware about how metro systems support a cleaner and greener future. The session concluded with a brief discussion on environmental awareness, during which the children took a pledge to care for the environment.

Sushil Kumar, Managing Director, UPMRC, said: “These initiatives reflect UPMRC’s strong commitment to protecting the environment. Beyond offering a safe, clean, and reliable mode of transport, Lucknow Metro plays a vital role in reducing traffic congestion, lowering pollution, and promoting a healthier way of living in the city. We remain dedicated to serving the people of Lucknow while continuously working to build awareness for a greener and more sustainable future.”
